FSSAI Food License — Register Your Food Business the Right Way
Whether you run a restaurant, bakery, cloud kitchen, or sell homemade food online — every food business needs an FSSAI license. Cess Associates handles the complete registration process for you, from choosing the right license type to getting your 14-digit FSSAI number — fully online, no office visits.
What is FSSAI Food License?
The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is the government body responsible for regulating all food businesses across India. Set up under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it ensures that every food product reaching the consumer is safe, properly labelled, and meets quality standards.
Every food business — from a small roadside stall to a large manufacturer — must register with FSSAI before starting operations. Once registered, you receive a unique 14-digit FSSAI number that must be printed on all food packages, displayed at your premises, and mentioned on menus and delivery boxes. This number is your business's food safety identity.
In Jaipur and across Rajasthan, food businesses are monitored by the Rajasthan Food Safety Commissionerate. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) conducts regular surprise inspections of restaurants, dhabas, sweet shops, and food stalls. Running your food business without a valid FSSAI certificate puts you at serious risk — including raids, closure orders, and heavy fines.
Who Needs a Food License?
Under the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, every person involved in the food business must obtain FSSAI registration or license. Here are the key categories:

Types of FSSAI License
FSSAI classifies food businesses into three categories based on annual turnover and scale of operations. Choosing the right one matters — registering under the wrong category can lead to rejection or penalties.
| License Type | Turnover | Who Applies | Application Form |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Registration | Up to ₹12 lakh/year | Small eateries, street vendors, home bakers, small dhabas, petty retailers | Form A |
| State License | ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore/year | Restaurants, bakeries, mid-sized manufacturers, distributors, retail chains within Rajasthan | Form B |
| Central License | Above ₹20 crore/year | Large manufacturers, importers, exporters, multi-state food chains, airport/railway caterers | Form B |
Basic Registration (Form A)
If your annual food sales are under ₹12 lakh, this is your category. Think small dhaba, neighbourhood bakery, home tiffin service, or a roadside chai stall. Valid for 1 to 5 years. Government fee is just ₹100 per year — among the lowest compliance costs in India.
State FSSAI License (Form B)
Most restaurants, established bakeries, and mid-sized food manufacturers in Jaipur fall under this category. Issued by the Rajasthan Food Safety Commissionerate. May involve an on-site inspection by a Food Safety Officer before approval.
Central License (Form B)
For large-scale operations — exporters in Sitapura, big national food chains, or importers in Jaipur. Also required for e-commerce food operators. Issued directly by FSSAI headquarters. Provides national-level credibility.
Tatkal (Fast Track) Registration
FSSAI offers Tatkal processing for urgent applications. If your business launch date is fixed and you need the license fast, we file under Tatkal with expedited processing. Available for Basic Registration and certain State License cases.

How to Apply — Step by Step
The entire FSSAI application process happens online through the official FoSCoS portal. With Cess Associates, you don't need to navigate any of this yourself — we handle it completely:
Find Your License Type
Share your business details with us. We assess your turnover, business type, and location to confirm exactly which FSSAI category applies to you — Basic, State, or Central.
Collect Documents
Share your documents digitally on WhatsApp or email. We check everything for accuracy before submission — a small mistake at this stage causes rejection and delays.
Online Filing on FoSCoS
We fill Form A or Form B on the official FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in), upload all documents, and make the government fee payment. You receive an acknowledgment with a reference number immediately.
Verification & Inspection
For Basic Registration, approval comes from document verification alone — typically 1-3 working days. For State/Central License, a Food Safety Officer from the Rajasthan Food Safety Department may visit your premises for inspection.
Certificate Issued
Once approved, your 14-digit FSSAI license number and certificate are available on the FoSCoS portal. We download it, share it with you, and guide you on how and where to display it at your business.
Display & Compliance
Print your FSSAI number on all food packages, menus, delivery boxes, and display the certificate at your premises. Cess Associates sends you a compliance checklist so nothing is missed.
Why Getting FSSAI Makes Real Business Sense
An FSSAI license is not just a legal tick-box. For most food businesses, it unlocks real commercial advantages:
Renewal — What You Must Know
FSSAI licenses expire. Missing the renewal window can mean fines and forced closure of your food business. Here are the rules every food business operator should know:
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Running a food business without a valid FSSAI license is a punishable offence under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The JMC and Rajasthan Food Safety Department conduct raids regularly — and the fines are not small:
| Offence | Penalty Under FSS Act 2006 |
|---|---|
| Operating without FSSAI license | Up to ₹5 lakh + imprisonment up to 6 months |
| Selling sub-standard food | Up to ₹5 lakh |
| Misbranded food products | Up to ₹3 lakh |
| False or misleading food advertisement | Up to ₹10 lakh |
| Unhygienic manufacturing / processing | Up to ₹1 lakh |
| Food adulteration (injurious to health) | Up to ₹1 crore + imprisonment |
| Late renewal after expiry | ₹100 per day penalty |
